Not sure how I feel about this.. I love E39 M5's and I love Supra's but how can I love an E39 without the V8 powaaaaaah!?!

Maybe if the E39 was cosmetically stock id be more open to it, but I'm gonna have to give this the crack pipe.

AT the bottom of page 1 he's already down to 22k. I'd say if he goes down to 20k then it's NP. For any more, it would just make sense to put the engine in an old IS300.

Ug. The hood just ruins it. But it looks like a really clean build. Might be a NP for 18-20k

I think that would make more sense anyway. What you make up for in mechanical reliability with this you're going to spend maintaining the rest of the car. For that price, you might as well get the full M5 experience. I'm a fan of both engines, but if you want a nice luxury sedan with the TT 2JZ, the IS just seems like the more appropriate option.

If it was cosmetically stock I'd consider it for the price. The major thing for me is the unknown mileage on the engine

This is beyond crack pipe. It's a good engine and everything, but for the money he's asking, you could get an E39 in very nice shape (and original cosmetic condition) with a V8 that is simply awesome and in no need of being swapped out.

If it seems like I'm being irrational about this, given that you're probably gaining a bit of reliability over the BMW V8 (and possibly some cheaper fixes when things go wrong), it's because I'm a little bit hopelessly in love with the E39.

Basically if I copied your post into the OP the same message would be going out.
E39 M5's are amazing!!!

Meh the engine doesn't bother me that much. I don't care enough to really check but you don't normally take on a build of that magnitude without rebuilding the engine.

That hood is hideous, but that's a cheap and easy fix.

My big question is: does the new engine increase or decrease the weight?I'm guessing increase...and mostly in front of the axle, which reduces handling and thus turns this into a Crackpipe.

This thing has been up on the board for sale for a while now.

$22K is what you get a for an E39 with about 80K miles. What you have here is one with almost 100K and a blown motor that was replaced with something that isn't a S62. Blasphemy or not, that just made this a $12K car.

Interesting idea, but it has to be a crackpipe. If it's tuned and in an E34, I could see it worthwhile... With a few thou less.
